NO EXPECTATIONS: John Tallman

An exhibition titled “NO EXPECTATIONS” sets a particular stage. One with an air of play, exploration, and spontaneity. It’s in these modes that invention and experimentation are afforded the opportunity to come to the forefront. Actions, gestures, decisions are all taken seriously, though the pressure that sometimes comes with them is tamped down. The results, evidenced in John’s pieces are exciting, thoughtful, and complete- they show their history in their making.Large color blocks, offset planes, directional mark making, torn edges, and printed elements all come together in John’s artwork. At times they push their boundaries against one another like tectonic plates, others open and close distances, and some melt into each other with silky strands of material, saturation, and hue

These prints become spaces we know, or at least give the feeling like we may know them.

Join us for an Artist Talk with John on Tuesday December 9th, 7:00-8:00pm. The conversation will focus on John’s printmaking methods, materials he uses, sources of inspiration and conceptual explorations. Questions are welcome, light snacks will be served!
