Join us for an inspiring plein air painting demo with artist Kristin Witbeck Lee outside Lancaster Art Vault! Watch as Kristin captures the beauty of the urban landscape in real time, sharing her techniques and insights into the art of outdoor painting. Whether you’re an art enthusiast or curious to see how a piece comes to life, this event offers a unique glimpse into the creative process. In case of rain, the demo will move indoors to Kristin’s studio for a portrait painting session.

Join Gabrielle Shelley from Replicate Print for a fascinating live demonstration of the linoleum block printing process. Watch as she inks and hand-burnishes her meticulously carved linoleum blocks onto paper, creating beautiful prints in real-time. Throughout the demo, Gabrielle will walk you through the various stages of this intricate art form, from carving techniques to inking and pressing, all while answering your questions and sharing insights into her creative process. Whether you’re an art lover or simply curious about printmaking, this is a perfect opportunity to engage with the craft firsthand.
2:00PM-3:00PM – Watercolor Batik with Resident Artist James Elia – (Outdoors Under the Eaves)
Watercolor batik is a process of layering wax and watercolor paint on Japanese rice paper. Watch artist James Elia as he demos the process using different kinds of wax such as paraffin and beeswax as the resist. The paper often has embedded rich strands of fiber which adds to the textured effect. Watercolor paint is applied transparent or opaque in successive darker values. A decisive last step in the process is crumbling the finished work allowing the wax to crack then a final wash of paint to create a dazzling unique effect once the wax is ironed off.

Use your phone like a manual camera. Learn to use a cellphone camera to take experimental “Instagram-worthy” images without using filter apps. With manual camera (Slow Shutter) apps for your phone, delve into your imagination. Explore tools and techniques that will create new worlds without the use of photo editing applications. Join Christiane David as she shares her recent travels and explores how the picturesque region of Normandy, which inspired icons like Monet and Renoir, continues to influence contemporary art. Through her unique perspective and live demonstration, David honors 150 years of Impressionism while infusing it with modern interpretation and flair.
