SUMMARY:The Living Sketchbook Workshop at curio. Gallery & Creative Supply

SUMMARY:Painting in a Painterly Manner with Dan Graziano at Lancaster Art Vault
DESCRIPTION:Friday and Saturday\, November 7 and 8 – 9AM-4PM \nThis two-day workshop will focus on painting “alla prima” (all at once) as well as developing greater\nskills of observation\, simplification and quickly painting “wet on wet” to create strong “painterly” \npaintings. The workshop will also discuss techniques to quickly transfer the important elements from a\nreference photo to the canvas\, creating an artistic and personal interpretation rather than simply\nrendering a photograph.\nThe first morning of the workshop begins with a brief discussion of oil painting basics (from materials\nto paint handling) and will also address the fundamentals of color\, value\, edges\, perspective and other\n“practical” elements related to successful painting. Participants will then work on a series of timed\npainting exercises incorporating the techniques discussed and developing their skills of observation\,\nsimplification and quickly working in an “alla prima” manner.\nEach day of the workshop will include a short painting demo by Dan with explanation of his process\nalong the way along with plenty of one-on-one individual instruction throughout the day. This\nworkshop is designed for intermediate to advanced painters in both oil and acrylic mediums\, however\nproficiency in basic drawing is required. Participants will be able to choose from a wide variety of\nreference photos supplied by the instructor for their painting exercises.\n$290 per person\nhttps://www.lancasterartvault.com/shows-workshops-events/3dpffv6yuwpjvzwgmvppiu0imu7gw1

SUMMARY:No Expectations: John Tallman Opening Reception at curio.
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening reception on First Friday November 7th 5:00-8:00pm for No Expectations featuring work by local artist John Tallman. \n An exhibition titled “NO EXPECTATIONS” sets a particular stage. One with an air of play\, exploration\, and spontaneity. It’s in these modes that invention and experimentation are afforded the opportunity to come to the forefront. Actions\, gestures\, decisions are all taken seriously\, though the pressure that sometimes comes with them is tamped down. The results\, evidenced in John’s pieces are exciting\, thoughtful\, and complete- they show their history in their making. \nLarge color blocks\, offset planes\, directional mark making\, torn edges\, and printed elements all come together in John’s artwork. At times they push their boundaries against one another like tectonic plates\, others open and close distances\, and some melt into each other with silky strands of material\, saturation\, and hue. \nThese prints become spaces we know\, or at least give the feeling like we may know them.
